Be happy I am a dilettante! Dinner at Newton Food Centre yesterday. Perfect. Just what I could have asked for as a small gathering (excluding the fact that we got lost because apparently ape cannot differentiate left and right when we asked for directions, psst). Everything turned out fun and hilarious. ************************************************************************************ 5.30pm: Vanez and I met up at Novena Square. After straying around for a while, we decided to share a large mashed potato to counter the hunger pangs. There was absolutely nothing much Novena Square had to offer so we head down to Newton in search of the food centre. 6.10pm: Reached the destination. Searched the road maps. No signs of food centre. Got out of station and didn't see anything resembling that of a food centre. Went back to the station control. Checked map again and walked out of station to look for the food centre. Didn't managed to see anything again. Went back to station control for the second time (Look how much time we had to spare). Called huiru and christie. Apparently they were just on their way. Consulted station master on the exact location of the food centre. Appalled by his reply. He said, "You know where is the old one? If you don't know, it's very hard to tell you how to walk to the new one". Great, if I knew I wouldn't need to ask you. Called ape. Ape directed me to get out from station via exit B upon which I will see a toilet. There will also be bus stop after I exit. Turn left after seeing the bus stop. We did as instructed and found ourselves sprayed by mist coming out from a building. After walking some distance, no bridge spotted. We decided to follow our own intuition. Finally relented and asked Passerby A who looked rather displeased with us halting her for nothing. Passerby A gave useful information and we found the bridge mentioned in the conversation. 6.35p.m: Arrived at Newton Food Centre. Ordered drinks while waiting for fellow comrades to arrive. 6.40p.m: After persistent questioning from the aunty, we ordered a plate of char kway teow. Keep noticing aunty who had an extremely striking hairdo. 6.45p.m: Ape arrived in a sexy red t-shirt and shorts. Distributed chocolates as our valentine's day gift. Told us about her weird dream, apparently about some instant messaging joke. Daft. Keep thinking about what aunty looked like. 6.50p.m: All our food arrived and we started digging in. Suddenly, my senses were jolted. Apparent mentioned aunty looked like roadrunner! I don't meant by this roadrunner which lived in the desert: I meant by this roadrunner: Beep beep! Let's digress a little from here since we are at my forte, cartoons! So you see, ape being an ape, needs to have a change of identity from time to time. So Vanez started saying she must be Wile.E.Coyote, self proclaimed super genius. There's an uncanny resemblance though. So, since everything needs to have an identity, I would proudly say Newton Food Centre resembles this: The sexy french skunk, Pepe Le Pew! A skunk being a skunk stinks and that a food centre being a food centre stinks as well. But the food is just extremely appealing and whet your appetite even before your try it. Just like the skunk which is so irresistable! Go on, what you waiting for? Visit looney tunes' characters at Newton Food Centre today! 7.00p.m: Comrades arrived with moo nearly lost on the way there. Comrades sat down while ape distributed her chocolates again. Hailed aunty roadrunner for menu and ordered sambal kangkong and stingray (this is damn good I'd say. Shall pester daddy to go there). Food arrived and I lost track of time after that. Subsequently we ordered chicken wings, satay and fish ball soup and not forgetting cans and cans of drinks. As usual, all the gossiping sessions while eating and Christie being Christie will rant on and on about endless of stuffs. Yes, that's her, our beloved Christie Han who said she wants to get caught by the police by staying out after 11.00p.m (that's only for minors below 17! duh). 8.30p.m: Food cleared, table cleared. Stomach bloated, cans empty. We left the food centre and proceeded to walking to somewhere where ape can get a drink. Not long after, we arrived at the new KK Hospital. Instead of going into the hospital, we proceeded walking and finally arrived at Tekka Mall where we visited the lavatory and ape insisted that she wants to eat Red ruby. Red ruby it shall be so we settled inside the food court and they ordered desserts. Continued our long talk and endless gossips while ape tried to finish her Red ruby and complained that the coconut milk inside the ice is very fattening. Women! 9.30p.m: Walked to Bugis Junction and realised that there's nothing much for us to do there since the shops are all closing soon. 10.00p.m: Linger around for a while 10.05p.m: Ape called and requested me to thank everyone on her behalf. Christie acted like she was extremely touched by that gesture. 10.10: Head down to National Library and sat outside the library where an exhibition stall was located and we helped ourselves to the chair. Surprisingly, the library had some events going on and the door was left opened so we were treated to the breeze coming from the air-conditioning system. Continued our gossips and some other topics. There seemed to be so much to talk about. So many things, so little time! The irony of life. 11.10p.m: Left for home by bus service 80. End my day with a smile. End my day with a joy. Most importantly, end my day with another unforgettable memory.
